Welcome to 6-17 CAV and to Ft. Wainwright, Alaska.

Soldiers and their families stationed here are among a very special group who get to be part of America’s last untamed wilderness.  Life in Alaska is different and exciting, and is full of many unique experiences.  The summer months are full of spectacular scenery and wonderful fishing, sight-seeing, and adventure.  The winters provide almost eight months of skiing, snowboarding, hockey, ice-skating, ice fishing, and some of the most awesome hunting you will ever find!  From the breathtaking mountains and lakes to the Aurora Borealis, there is something here for everyone.

6th Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment performs armed aerial reconnaissance and security operations in conjunction with other maneuver forces utilizing our OH-58D Kiowa Warriors.
